This Just In

Heeyyloo there! Sry for not blogging for 16 days, I was caught up with a lot of things and did not feel like writing even though I have a lot of stories to tell. Next week is a holiday and I am more settled now. I have been meaning to write, but I was waiting to feel like writing. So, this just in. This shall be the post to get the ball rolling again.

Here’s the background story:

Some days ago, I wanted to go to the North West building for my Comm Tech class via the library because I think I went through that route before. I asked the man at the library desk, he told me that it’s possible. Go straight and turn right. So I did, and I ended up at the North East building. Melodious sounds welcomed me, I looked around me, trying to find the source. It took a while for me to realize that someone was playing a piano on the lower floor. I didn’t expect that a piano would be placed near a study area. Am I at the right place? I remember seeing orange patio umbrellas at the study area, but there’s none here. There should be computer labs, why are there only classrooms? I made my way downstairs to get a better view of who is on the piano – it was a boy wearing a yellow shirt. I called him a boy because he seems much younger than me. I didn’t get to see his face and I will only know him as the boy with the yellow shirt until I get to know who is he…somehow.

After lingering for a short while, I went back up to the library and asked another man at the IT desk how should I go to the west building. (The North building is connected to the library.) He took out his map and jabber some stuffs about our current location and pointed at the map and said that that’s the west side. Thinking about it now, I didn’t get what he told me. I thought about the east and the west and how the campus is built. I decided to take the long cut – go back down to the ground floor (the library is at the 3rd floor) and walk to the financial centre and take one flight of stairs up. I made it just in time.

TODAY after my Comm Tech class, I somehow decided to try again. I shall credit it the Holy Spirit within me. I saw people walking through the hallways so I decided to try again. I walked across the study area and looked up at the navigation signboards; and lo, it said something like EAST GARDEN. I walked through the hallways of the IEP offices, the doors of the hallways were opened, I think it wasn’t opened before. Hmmmmm…doors, hallways…

True enough, orange patio umbrellas welcomed me. I walked across again and saw the piano below.

I have a lot to tell, and I’m trying to make time to write; but I was caught up with other duties.

However, I can do this one important post now.

Tomorrow will be the first day of my second week. It will be quite a day because I will have a lot to do. I changed my schedule again on Friday (that itself is a testimony! which I will soon tell you.

Tomorrow, I will have TWO NEW CLASSES: Commuications Technology  and ENG4U.

The lecturer for my ENG4U will be the person whom J highly recommended. I think it’s for the better that I dropped the Writer’s Craft this semester.

more on this later.

Two new classes. Oh God, help me to handle it. Go before me.

I have to meet someone to buy the Internationa Business Fundamentals Book. I think I could have gotten a lower price; I don’t really know how to negotiate, and I don’t want to appear calculative and impulsive. I should have scrolled down somemore before messaging her. She posted twice. The first time she posted, she said the price is 50 and it’s negotiable. The next time she posted she said it’s 60 and it’s negotiable. I saw the 60 one and messaged her whether can I get it for 50. She is selling it with her notes. If I buy the original, it’s RM 250. Secondhand, about RM 150. There are about 373 pages. So if I photocopied myself, it’ll amount to about 40, excluding time and petrol spent. So let’s say it’s 40, the other 10 would be for her notes. But I don’t know the condition of her book. But she is a girl. So it should be alright, generally. It’s just the thought that I can get it for less than 50. Then I think to myself, do to others what you would have them do to you. I think I’d lke a photocopied version because it’ll be easier to highlight on rather than on the very nice paper that was used on the original book.

I need to get A4 line paper before the English class. I was peeping through his class the other day and it need it for his class, unlike other classes. Do I really need to bring a hardcopy dictionary? I shall bring the pocket one tomorrow.

I need to walk to Harvest church tomorrow to get my Awards Night photos. I hope it won’t be a very long walk as my friend said it will be. My previous classmates would frequent Rock Cafe, so it should be alright.

I finished my application for the Secretary/Treasurer position. My buddy added her touch while proofreading it for me. journalist-to-be. Deo Volente. If it is Your will, then so be it. If it’s not, it’s okay.

Till then. There’s a holiday on Tuesday.

I though I could write on Monday after my classes but I can’t. =(

I changed my schedule. I decided to drop Communications Technology because it was right after my other class and will be held in another building. So, I changed it to Period 1 International Business because I would arrive at 7:30am but have no classes till 10:40am.

Which means that I cannot afford to miss the bus. I have a class at 8am. Attendance is a very important component. Each course has 110 hours of scheduled instruction…..If you are missing classes, you are missing the opportunities for success.

This year is different. Previously, I’m prone to being late because there was no bus to catch. Attendance does not matter. I can decide not to go to school because I’m tired. I can take my own time doing tests. But not anymore. Welcome to reality. Welcome to college life. I’ll get use to this.

So much so for liking to document stuffs, I didn’t get a chance to take pictures of my previous schedules…

I didn’t make it.

Sorry, I am not good enough yet. Sorry, let you down. Sorry, dropped homeschooler’s reputation.

Will appeal…was told that I will have to tell the lecturer. I didn’t plan to before telling him I didn’t make it.

The day started off with Mr. John Mackle welcoming us with a brief introduction, then, the lecturers introduced themselves. It was pleasant. I was there early. I made friends with the girl sitting next to (a couple of feet away from) me only when the “assembly” was about to start. We went out for lunch! after the library tour.

I need to read my Language Arts books again. I need to pay more attention and not zone out when information about student privileges and services are given out.

Our orientation’s treasure hunt could have been better. The task that they gave us are more applicable for seasoned students and not “freshies” like us. Anyhow, it gave me the opportunity to meet a few more people as we trail behind…

My pen cover went missing after it was used during the treasure hunt. Normal.

Went to the mall. I have this tendency to look at things really long. I went to the “Vintage” booth selling charms, bracelets, shirts, and the like and I gazed upon their beauty. At least I bought a charm – a charm that I was surprised  that they are even selling. I’ll go back for their mockingjay and another bigger sized mockingjay when the stock arrives and when I have more money. Went to the Canon store and got to experience the “do not judge a book by its cover” saying. I need to stop going to the Canon store just to ask stuffs. I had read about the 100D in a magazine I was read when I cut my hair, so I went to check it out. A salesperson wearing a Canon compact camera advertisement t-shirt approached me and I enquired of him about DSLRs. He was really goood. He surprised me. I asked him a lot of questions and he really know his stuffs. (I told him that I’m just “asking only”)

Then I checked out the printers, and he had to ask the Chinese guy to attend to my queries. I was checking out the printers and asking about the price and all that, but when I asked for the price of a white printer that was on the same display table, the Chinese guy got irritated. He said that the white printer is VERY EXPENSIVE (it looked cheap to me, cheaper than the rest of the printers) and that since I wanted a printer below RM300, he didn’t recommend that to me. I said that I’m just asking. Then he walked away and sat down behind the other display counter.

Then I saw another printer, the nice salesperson was still standing by me. That printer is newer AND cheaper. How puzzling. Most probably they didn’t update the price. When I left, I thank the nice person for his time and I sorta glared at the Chinese guy. He must be swearing inside him in Cantonese.

Maybe I am too much. But come on, it’s not as if there’s other customers in the store. And it’s good to practice telling people about the products you’re selling. Dog eyes, perhaps. Maybe this is also why I find the majority  in NS SO MUCH MORE friendly and less intimidating than my own race.

Then I went to Cold Storage and placed my heavy belongings on the basket trolley like those in the POPULAR BOOK FAIR and attempted to look for some Buy 1 Free 1 stuffs or some Jeally Beans. Came across some Korean guys.

Checked out the Korean Won on the currency exchange and now, it’s 3.18.

It was about 2.7 in Jan 2011.

Malaysia, Malaysia

It took a while to navigate back to where I was supposed to wait for my bus. Wanted Wifi so I went to J Co donuts and was attracted but the “feeling blue>” donut. After tax it’s 2.65. Couldn’t access J Co’s wifi (didn’t know the password), but I could access Sunway Pyramid’s Free Wifi – didn’t know that exist; then I messaged my friends to ask more questions.

The bus came late. It was raining. There’s this guy that reminded me of Graham. I had to call Renee to ask her where does the bus wait again even though she have already told me a lot of times. Next time, if I want to use the umbrella, I have to use it fully and not make it worst for other people.

Didn’t know there are two stops as well when the bus shuttle us back. Made another friend by asking. =D

My feet were really sore at night. The magical Gua Hua.

6th January 2014

Woke up at around 5 something.

The bus came at around 6:38am. I doubt they do a head count of the student. If I’m late, I’d miss the bus. If I come at 6:40am but the bus leaves at 6:35am too bad for me.

The traffic congestion reminded me of a video I took through the microscope’s lense during the science field trip last year – blood congestion…

I think it’s a fascinating sight, on one side the lights are red, on the other side the lights are orange.

It wasn’t what I had imagined it to be.

The Sunway App proved to be helpful. I shall be using that to navigate next time.

I recorded the energetic Student’s Services’ Terry’s presentation. He reminded me of one of my previous classmates.

I messaged D in the morning (he told me to when I join) but he didn’t reply. Meh.

The Literacy Test was okay. Most of the objective questions concern the parts of speech. There was also some tricky questions, I had to choose the more sensible one out of the two possible answers. Basically, there are two tests, one objective, the other an essay (400-500 words)

There were 100 questions for the objective test. 4 passages with 25 blanks each. One will need to choose the right words given on the left.

I have never taken any official tests like this.

I was slow at the beginning because I placed my answer sheet on my left while using my right hand to darken (not shade) the answer. It was awkward for my shoulders.

Essay. It has been….a really long time since I wrote an essay with a mech. pencil.

Mr. Lawrence W took over our class of 8 people –  the 8 people who registered late. Some of them registered yesterday.

It has been… a really long time since I wrote a proper essay. Even though it was a topic that I could handle, one hour was just sufficient. I took a really long time to finish writing my first paragraph and to begin with a second paragraph. I still have the habit of not doing an outline. If it was typing, maybe…I’ll finish faster. The other students should have taken tests like this before. O levels- school exams. I don’t have to write an essay for my LPT or STs.

I hope I didn’t go off topic too much. The topic sentences should agree. My conclusion is not very much in agreement with my thesis statement. I said that I’m for – being cooperative and getting along well with others best prepare one for life…BECAUSE it’s foundational to a more meaningful life or something like that.

I talked about what my mother always tell me about character and academics, about my experience of it when I was in Singapore. About what Arun said about IQs and EQs. About how short our life is. About eulogies and it’s our action that touch others. I think I’m quite a hypocrite. And on a side note, Mitch Albom’s Tuesday With Morrie. I think I didn’t punctuate the title of the book. I used quotation marks at least twice. My conclusion was that it’s the best if a person have both.

I didn’t know whether I should contrast it with the competitiveness one. Oh. I said that life is not about the survival of the fitest or the last man standing.

I brought two notebooks that contained Language Arts notes. I chose not to contrast it because of this segment that I read but vaguely remember when I was writing…

A good topic sentence is the expression of a philosophy. It is controversial. What is the point of proving something on which everyone agrees?

I hope I didn’t fail badly at this – “Paragraph unity depends on the consistent support of the topic sentence by every sentence in the paragraph.”

I  was the last person to finish the essay and leave the room. Mr. Lawrence was standing in front of me even though I have 3 minutes left. He reminds me of Uncle James. His demeanor, his voice. Uncle James teach Add Math. Mr. Lawrence – Advance Functions. I asked about the Writer’s Craft during one of the Q&A sessions, so when I was passing my essay to him he implied that he knows I’m aiming for the ENG4U. He assured me that if I did not make it for the University level, I could go to the Uni level if during ENG4C I prove my worth. The thing is that it’ll be shameful that a person who finished Grade 12 US Language Arts can’t make it for 4U and my age. Nana advised me seriously that self pity has no place in this mad world.

Course briefing. 4th floor. So hard to navigate. Got to see the rooftop I wanted to. The campus is like a pyramid, like a maze. So many corners so many rooms. Accents. I am quite. If I made it to ENG4U, I’ll join the Echo Newsletter group. Writing. Photographs. Should I ask about it first? I’ll see if I’m lively enough to explore the campus. Still out of place. I’ll know whether I made it or not on Wednesday.

So many business, engineering students. Who will my classmates be?

oh God, thy will be done. Take charge. It’s beyond human control.

p.s. I don’t usually write like this. Fragmented.

I followed Renee back! She came from Monash to look for her prev. Econs lecturer. My mom called me like 4 times when I’m in the LT 7. Thank God I was looking for the bus route paper and placed my bag on the table and saw the my phone was ringing. Thank God I brought the bag that I brought. I went back at around 4. If I had followed the bus, I’d have gone home at around 6.

It was raining.

I saw G and JM and SF’s sister and SC.

This is only the beginning. Take heart!

It’s so sad to see the students board and leave the bus without acknowledging the bus driver.

Till then.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.

p.s. If I didn’t mis-hear, Sunway University will be renamed the Jeffrey Cheah Univerity in honor for his contributions. Sunway Education Group is not public listed (unlike the school in the Heirs) and there are no shareholders. The revenue goes to the JC Foundation. R said that this is the reason why it’s easy to get scholarship.

And R also said that the roads around the campuses are also his contribution.
